I was born June 27'th 1971 in
Mindelheim (Bavaria) where I grew up and spent almost my whole life there. It is a nice,
quiet, small town (about 14.000 inhabitants) in green surroundings where people celebrate
every 3 years a historical festival to remember the knight "Georg von
Frundsberg", who lived in 15'th century in a small castle on top of a hill above the
The whole town goes back in
time to the knight's era and for 10 days we live like in middle-age. Soldiers with big
swords and lances, armored knights, show fights, historical music, campfires on the street
where whole pigs are barbecued - a magnet for thousands of visitors every time. More about
the festival under:
I learned cycling when I was
little and remember very well how I was taught by my dad (..and the crash). Skiing,
ice-skating and hiking mountains (I lived 100 km in front of the Alps) have been my first
sports and a few years later I started windsurfing, scuba diving and free climbing (still
my favored activity). I love music, used to play trumpet for 15 years, did some model
flying (little airplanes), rode a motorbike and I am an impassioned cook (gorging I
learned on this trip).
I have not been riding a bike
for years, started my trip without any training and got the bike four days before I left.
I love nature very much so I enjoy camping out there - even for a long, long time.
After I finished school,
military service and studying four semesters of engineering I changed education and became
a dental technician - working like this till I left to round the world on bicycle ...
Of course my parents did not
like my idea a lot, but they got used to it and after a while they realized that it is not
this dangerous and became more open minded.
My sister Corinna is 3,5
years younger than me, lives in Munich and is working in computer business. I learned
English at school and after a crash-course of Spanish I was able to speak some words. Not
enough for a conversation, but I picked up the language pretty fast and meanwhile speaking
fluently Spanish. No wonder after all this time...
But not only languages are a
"present" of this journey - it's an indescribable life-experience that covers
all sections you can think about. Deep friendships, physical and psychical limits,
different cultures, people, politics and history, ways of living, poverty, geography....
this is an almost daily increasing knowledge - and this were only few things I mentioned.
Some day I will find tranquility to write down all more detailed - my web is only an
And now - I wish you fun and
endurance for reading ...
